notes:
This is a very good sounding recording, some spots
appears here and there (as on recorder 1) but they do not ruin this recording at
all, what's wrong here is the speed, it runs slow, slow till TGGITS (see why
below)
before talking about the souces used here let's talk about this CDRs I got: this
Master[Maxell UDXL II CASS] should not be indexed the way I got it actually, it
should be indexed this way:

I got a copy having all the recorder one in 1 track (but lineage is verified).
Here we have to talk about the sources used actually
cause it’s not completely from recorder 4 as it was supposed to be...
this recorder 4 is often described as ‘similar’ to recorder 1
Sure it sounds ‘similar’ to recorder 1! Cause it IS recorder 1.
It’s genuine recorder 4 only till TGGITS (that’s cut), this taper didn’t record
more I think (guess) ... from that track (from Money to OOTD) sound quality
changes distinctly (there’s even a distinct cut!) and ALL COINCIDES WITH
RECORDER 1 from that point.
There’s even a point here where this recorder 4 is similar to recorder 2 (it’s
more similar to the Dark Side Of Radio City source indeed) >>>> on Speak To Me /
Breathe there's a guy laughing at the beginning, same as the one on recorder 2
but audience chats around are distinctly different (on recorder 2 there are guys
chatting very near to the taper that are not here).
the recorder 1 used as 'filler' comes from a very low source.
I've got a direct rip
from a cassette of unknown generation that's the same as this (same SQ just a
small difference in the volume levels)... strange m?
In this tape transfer the cuts are all very clear, the addition of the other
recorder after the cut on TGGITS is very distinct.
So if it's (and it was already) 100% sure there are 2 recorder used here now the
dilemma of the genuinity of the master arises.
liner notes coming with this:
liner notes, I recommend you seek this one: Comments: A really nice,
unremastered show. It is indeed from this date, since it came directly from a
friend of the taper, who also attended the show. Disc One: - 'Obscured By
Clouds' begins with the opening notes of the song. The taper fumbles his mic a
bit at 9:20. - 'Set The Controls' has a very spacey intro. The entire track is
great, and is one of my favorite versions. It appears that the taper either did
not record between tracks for set one, or edited the tracks for his master CDR.
- 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene', and 'Echoes' also begin at the opening notes.
The first tape flip occurs between these two tracks. Disc Two: - The first four
tracks of set two are marred somewhat by clicks which are audible during the
quieter passages. They can be cleaned up. There are no clicks for the remaining
tracks, after the tape flip prior to 'Money'. This may be due to a fresh tape? -
'Speak To Me': The audience member who laughs maniacally at 1:14 into the intro,
followed by the audience's reaction, matches the second disc of the "Dark Side
Of Radio City" release perfectly, with the exception that the 'Dark Side'
version was remastered to run too fast in order to fit the second set plus
encore onto a single disc. The "Dark Side" intro to 'Speak To Me' is about 34
seconds longer than this copy. - 'Great Gig In The Sky': About 3 minutes of the
closing vocals just prior to 'Money' have been cut by the taper. The missing
audio includes the second tape flip which is between these two tracks. - 'One Of
These Days': A GREAT version, includes David's warm-up strokes before the wind
machine kicks in. An interesting vignette from "Zed", who attended the show: "I
remember walking out into the lobby/foyer as 'One Of These Days' started with
its wind effects, and there were two cops there...one said to the other, 'what
the hell is that--did someone leave the doors open? We'd better check!' True
story." |
