notes:
amazing packaging for this Limited Edition RoIO (1991 – Men At Work –
distributed in Italy by Vox Populi) the box consist in an LP size case with a
man hiding himself printed both on the front and the back side; the CD support
is camouflaged in the middle of the case representing the exact piece of the
underlying picture; the case in covered by two cardboard-shutters covered in
turn by a transparent film printed with the same image. The case is held by an
LP size cardboard-sleeve with a painting printed on the front side and the same
inner image printed on the back side. A wonderful packaging really,
unfortunately the CD support seems like unable to stay firm in the case ... it
practically tries to fall down anytime you attempt to extract the case from the
sleeve.. It has also an orange/yellow sticker on the cellophane with written :
“COMPACT DISC” in capitals (since someone could confuse that with a LP, indeed)
and then “Pink Floyd – Brain Damage – SPECIAL PACKAGE – limited edition – WORK
5520 – (P) Vox Populi” There's a little card inside with the CD details and the
SIAE trademark (a sorta warranty certificate I guess) . The print run is not
specified ...
Usually well-packaged/limited edition RoIOs have disappointing contents ... not
this one.
It exceed all expectations really.
The sound quality is SUPERB except for some little pops here and there that at
first made me assume it was mastered from vinyl ... This is surely from a
copy of the pre-FM recording , evident from the inclusion of the "I've Been Mad
Fror F***ing Years" line on Speak To Me.
other versions from the pre-FM have this line mixed differently, the FM
broadcast had this line totally cut.
This RoIO has SOYCD as bonus track from an unidentified date. The artwork says
only: “track 11: first live performance, completely different version” and as
usual it’s not correct ... it’s just the first U.K. live performance, it comes
indeed from the date at Usher Hall, Edinburgh (1974 - November 4), whereas SOYCD
was performed for the first time during the French tour (at the Palais des
Exposition, Toulouse, France 1974 June 18 ... the first available performance is
included in the Colmar RoIO) …
