notes:
First of all, this copy like confirms me there are a lotta different copies of
this recorder, all missing/including little pieces of it, it's like the taper
copied it differently time by time to track the traders.
This is the longest copy I've ever checked anyway.
These are the main differences between this copy and the legitimate 1st
generation tape I got:
1. This version has a long soundscape intro missing completely in other
versions.
2. There are few seconds of the beginning of Pigs edited out from this copy, the
1st gen has some seconds of the beginning of Pigs that I didn't notice in any
other copy around (they are still few seconds only anyway)
3. Speed is too fast at times, above all during Pigs! This in almost all the
copies and I guess on the master too, though on the 1st gen the speed problems
are not so evident like on this one for example. Also here Pigs is not spit in 2
parts; Pigs is spit in 2 parts in few copies ony (included the 1st gen)
4. Welcome To The Machine has not the little edit at the beginning present on
the 1st gen (and few other copies only).
5. Have A Cigar has no edits here, on the 1st gen there's a little edit at the
beginning, whereas on this copy you can hear the tape stops at the end of WTTM
and begins again on HAC but there's no missing portion (there's rather a little
repetition of few secs.; probably the songs were on the 2 sides of this tape
copy), again, also about this that little edit at the beginning is on the 1st
gen I got (and few other copies only).
6. There's a little stop between HAC and Whish You Where Here on the 1st gen, on
this version it's consequential (no stops) like in other copies
7. evident speed problems at the end to SOYCD 6-9 on this version! (full of
distortions) but here it is complete! 100%; the end of SOYCD 6-9 was edited out
from the 1st gen maybe right for this problem, it was edited out in almost all
the copies I heard before too!, so in spite of the distortions I know now it
isn't really cut on the master at least..
8. Both the encores have little more audience applauses, on the 1st gen those
are shorter.
about the sound:
this sounds pretty differently from the other versions I got, included the
legitimate 1st generation tape. There's much more instrument definition here!;
but it was maybe transferred at a too loud volume and this provoked some evident
crackles at times, I think a bit of post-processing have been applied on this
transfer to smooth the crackles.
Also some transitions between tracks have tics due to the burning, but these are
easily removable (not a problem or flaw at all).
Overall this is a very nice upgrade to me.
with many thanks to T!.
