notes:
THE FIREMAN TAPES VOLUME 2
directly sourced from the master, this runs very fast,
needs absolutely speedcorrection.
SQ is not that better than Crackers (Zeus) IMO, they actually sound quite the
same: same cut on the 20K in the frequencies, some small digital pops; probably
'Zeus' used a DAT clone of this one.
notes as they came with the files:
from the second recorder of the gig, directly sourced from the master tapes.
This is maybe the best sounding recordings of the 72. The tracks of the second
set are written inverted on the cover, same happens on the Bowl De Luna (HRV)
cover ... maybe they do follow what's the classic setlist reported on books.
... It's surely an error cause you can distincly hear Waters says "Thank You,
Good Night" after ASOS (while there are a bunch of fireworks), before the encore
(STC) ..then after STC there are the definitive greetings.
HOLLYWOOD BOWLEVARD - PLATINUM EDITION
This is a new rip from DAT clone of the masters, see notes below.
I still prefer Crackers (Zeus) for some reasons.
notes as they came with the files:
Audience Master Reel recorded by Rob Bertrando:
Sony ECM-22P mics > Sony 770 reel deck, 1/4 track 7.5 ips.
40-50 feet back, dead center
DAT Master > Weitzman DAT > Sony DTC-A7 via Optical Cable >
Soundblaster > Cool Edit Pro 2.0* > 2 wav files (one per set) >
Soundforge 7.0** > CD Wave > Flac Frontend (level 7, align sector
boundaries) > flac
*Anthony Theesfeld extracted the DAT and performed minor sound editing with CEP,
removing some of the mic noise and other various dropouts and glitches.
**I edited in Soundforge a total of 10 channel drop-outs, mostly the result of
mic cable problems, the majority of which were in On the Run. I did this by
patching music from the existing channel into the lossed channel. Short fades
were applied at the beginning and end of each set. I also speed-corrected
(103.751%) each of the two wav files before splitting into individual tracks
using CDWave.
The Fireman's Tapes releases were the result of the generous contribution of
music by Mike Weitzman*, a volunteer firefighter and first-response rescue
worker, to the Pinkroioshn direct connect hub. Thanks, Mike!
