notes:

the speed is not 100% exact, seems still a bit fast, but is not so annoying, not as fast as Pandora's at least.
a bit hissy but the sound is really well defined, very bright. GDR usually doesn't release disappointing RoIOs indeed, but likes to change the dates, this is mislabelled as Long Island June 16 1974 (even) ... see comments below.
another peculiarity of the GDR RoIOs is to " unconsciously (?)" include alternate recordings at it seems: this is not the alternate recorder of the 75.6.16 gig but U&T is a filler from the Boston 75.06.18 gig coming from a different recording than the one commonly in circulation. This alt recorder of the Boston gig is complete and sounds very good but not as much pleasurable than the circulating master from the other recorder.
Anyway, this 75.6.16 recording is complete as well (see the Highland’s Raving Crazy Diamond Moon) but rarely circulated with no edits.
precious comments from the pf-roio db:
According to an anonymous article in the latest Brain Damage, the author sourced this tape for GDR. It's actually Nassau Coliseum, NY, 6.16.75. GDR altered the year to fall within the 20-year rule; this will be their last ROIO issue. :-( -THE HEDONIST
As mentioned earlier, Us and Them fades out early, and I even think that this is from another source, probably not the same show. There is very little audience noise on this one.
If the dates are correct, this was only two days before the Boston Gardens show (June 18, 1975) so the show is the same, but IMHO, this one is of better quality. If you are looking for a good '75 show, this one is a must. -ANON
It is decent, but I think the Boston Gardens (18 June 1975) show on Triangle Records is the definitive 1975 show. Better performance; better sound quality. Plus, Random Precision has part of Us & Them cut. -ECM
Some songs fade out prematurly. Us and them is listed as being 7:10, but actually only runs 4:30 before it fades out during the sax solo. Some blistering and very rough guitar work and some nice improvisation. The band sounds very tired and sloppy, but this adds to the soulful and genuine quality to the work of this period. The audience is very enthusiastic (occasional air-horn blasts and shouts - Roger just loves this stuff) and Dick Parry plays with his usual beauty and class. -ANON
In as much I was asking about a comparison with the Boston Gardens CD, the responses I received were more or less given about the shows themselves. All responses were unanimously in favor of the Boston Gardens 6/16/75 show over the NY 6/18/75 show.
Many thanks to those who did respond, in fact I'm listening to the Boston Gardens 6/16/75 roio as I type and I can attest to the performance at this show as being top notch. While I will agree on the comments in the roio db about the few edits (especially during SOYCD) as somewhat annoying, the sound and performance is better than I had hoped and more than outweight the deficiencies listed. I would even go so far as to say that if the NY 6/18/75 show is near the level of this show it would be a worthy one to have as well. -ANON
This is the first roio I've bought - i found it in a record store in Italy - so I'm not sure what standards to judge it by. Raving and Drooling and You Gotta Be Crazy are interesting for a die-hard fan, I suppose, to chart the development of those songs, but they don't bear repeated listening, because they're almost the songs we know and love, but not quite. Likewise, the Dark Side performance is very ordinary. The break after Breathe (Reprise) to change CDs is awkward, and what really shows up is how badly they needed another guitarist on songs like Time. The only things that make the roio worthwhile are: a) a ragged but still fantastic early version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, which, the band declare, is "about a diappearing act" b) a completely manic, frenzied Have A Cigar, which would far excel the album version if it wasn't for the awful vocals. they really couldn't sing this c) a brilliant Echoes, complete with saxophone. (although there are occasional microphone taps.)
I don't regret buying it, but I'm sure there are better roios out there. - SEB
