OK,
it's passed quite a long time since put up the headphones to check out this
recording(s), finally I'm doing it again. If the first check was addressed to
find out if these 2 recordings in circulation were really from the same date
(and I stated they are, in spite of the fact they are around as being from 2
distinct different gigs) now I'm here to try solve the question if the recorder
again.
So
first of all, there are these 2 recordings having different contents and
considered for long from 2 different dates (Philadelphia 75-6-12 and
Philadelphia 75-6-13). They have some audience "comments" in common but much
more ones are different so let's draw a conclusions.
My Idea is that they are different recordings having JUST Echoes in common,
which I can't say for sure is from rec.1 or rec.2
After
solved the question of the dates and the recoders it would be nice to find out
if the real date of both is 6-12 or 6-13, but this I can't really tell just
listening to them. The most credited date is June 12 anyay, since most of the
old fantapes were labeled that way.
here
are some of the versions I checked for these 2 recorders in general circulation:
recorder 1: from unknown gen, around as "Philadelphia
volume 1" (and many other titles too) and dated Philly 6-12. This is
complete (not considering the "Echoes-matter") and decent sounding, I
also transferred this
nice tape
recorder 2: from unknown gen, around as "Philadelphia
volume 2" (and many other titles too) and dated Philly 6-13. This is missing
R&D and starts fading in on YGBC (again, not considering the "Echoes-matter");
sound quality is pretty poor but all is audible after all, the first recorder is
better in SQ. The version I have is poorly edited too and has some noise in the
back, as the tape wasn't virgin, it gets worse and worse during the recording
with also some "tzz-tzz" noise appearing at the end.
here
are some points to distinguish the 2 recorders:
R&D
recorder 1: starts on the
first notes of the song
recorder 2: the song is
missing
YGBC
recorder 1: starts from the
beginning; as soon as the song is over guys near to the taper claps and yell "woooo",
then the recording cuts.
recorder 2: starts whith
Dave singing (fading in); after Gilmour sings "You must have had a tough time" a
guy clearly yells "wooooh" (not on the other recorder); as soon as the song is
over guys near to the taper claps and one yells "woo-hoo" and soon after that a
guy clearly tells another guy "what do you think?...".. and they go on talking.
SOYCD I-V
recorder 1: starts soon
before Waters announces the song; while Waters talk about the "song from the
next album" a guy yells in the back roughly "yeeeaahh" 2 times (this is on both
recorders which were prolly not very far one another); right before Waters says
"it's called Shine On You Crazy Diamon" a guy whistles clearly and soon after
Waters says that a man clearly yells "yeah"
recorder 2: there are
little tuneups at the beginning; after Waters says "it's called Shine On You
Crazy Diamon" a man near to the taper yells "woo-hoo"
SOYCD IV-IX
recorder 1: on my version
there's a little portion repeated into the song after about 2 minutes (change of
tape side); when the song is over a man yells "woow" at leat 3 times, then the
recording cuts (no greetings)
recorder 2: soon after
Wright starts playing into the song you can hear guys in the back talking,
while the song is finishing a guy yells "wow-hoh" and then people claps, at the
end of the song a guy yells "wooho ... wee" soon before Waters greets the
audience.
STM /Breathe
recorder 1: there's a
firework exploding near to the beginning of the heartbeats (STM here is much
longer than on the other version)
recorder 2: when Breathe
starts you can hear a guy near to the taper saying "... take it"
OTR/Time/Breathe(R)
recorder 1: there's a lady
yelling "woooh" loud in the back when OTR starts, this is audible in the other
recorder too. On Time, soon betore the singing starts a guy yells "yeeah" in the
back.
recorder 2: On Time, soon
after the singing starts on "taking away" a guy yells "weeeh"; on Breathe(R)
soon after Gilmour sings "I like to be here" a man yells "waaah"
Money
recorder 1: /
recorder 2: soon before the
bass starts playing a guy yells "yeah" in the back twice very clearly
U&T
recorder 1: few seconds
after the song starts a man yells in the back "waaha-hoo" very clearly
recorder 2: /
Eclipse
recorder 1: people yells
and whistles at the end, during the bells, then the recording cuts before the
very end
recorder 2: the song is
complete and there are the greetings at the end
Echoes
recorder 1: when Waters
announces the song, after "Thank You for coming, this is called Echoes" a lady
and a man yells loud, same as on recorder 2!.. but here Echoes is complete, in
the other recording is stops soon before the very end
recorder 2: when Waters
announces the song, after "Thank You For Coming, this is called Echoes" a lady
and a man yells loud, yup, I believe Echoes is really the same on both the
recordings (same taper I mean) but I'm not sure if it's genuine from recorder 1
or 2! ... again, the Philly recordings are destined to be always patched as it
seems! It happened also for Philly 71, 77 even maybe for Philly 87! aw!
