notes:
this sounds a bit better than the version from the 3rdGen but it's really a light upgrade hard-to-tell to that, the incomplete version from the 2ndGen is still the one sounding crispier to my ears.

The 16 bit transfer is missing a few audience seconds in the beginning of the show, after Pigs and before SOYCD I-V, but has some more before and after Money. The 24 bit transfer is integral.

notes as they came with the files for the 16bit version:
Source : 1st gen from EX stereo audience reel tape - Personal collection, NOT from "Unauthorised Live" silver disc of different quality.
PLEASE NOTE : I have already shared here a SECOND gen incomplete tape (missing Have a Cigar and Wish you were here) from the same recorder.
This post is an UPGRADE : my good friend LETSGO / SM gave me his COMPLETE 1ST GEN. tape of the show for digitalizing purposes (same recorder).God Bless Him !

A raw, high resolution transfer of an old first gen copy of GD's excellent stereo reel-to-reel recording.
The 1st gen tapes were first transferred using a Nakamichi Dragon and a Zoom handheld recorder and seeded on Dime, then subsequently uploaded to Yeeshkul. I contacted the owner, finkployd49, and he kindly loaned his cassettes to me so I could do a fresh high resolution transfer.
The only adjustments I made were in the analogue domain to each of the three cassette sides. Each was slightly different to the next. Tape two was weak in the right channel, for example. The FSP 14 has analogue gain dials on the front which makes it a relatively easy, albeit time consuming, task to make adjustments to the individual channels and achieve a nice balance.
My copy is about 5 minutes longer than finkployd49's. This is because he edited out some audience noise and I preferred to leave everything in. There's one place where I spotted I could have trimmed the recording a little: Pigs On The Wing (Part 2) ends side A and you'll hear that I have left in an 18 second repeat of audience noises from the beginning of Side B.
The transfers Finkployd49 and I achieved sound quite different. Finkployd49's appears to have a deeper and firmer low end (a typical Nak Dragon sound) but less high end. This could be due in part to the channel mixing work Finkployd49 did. Mine is more detailed and dynamic. For this reason we are predicting that most people will prefer this new version.
The taper, GD, was a French bootleger who regularly recorded concerts in Paris in the 70's. He refused to do any trades so, sometimes, the guy who gave finkployd49 his cassettes (he mistakenly thought they were too damaged to be used), would pay for some stuff. GD was rumored to have been busted because he sold his recordings through music magazines ads and appears to have disappeared from the tape trading world at the end of the 1980s. Finkployd49 remembers seeing GD leaning against the sounboard at the Gallagher Paris '75 show; his huge sparkling microphones could be seen from far away.

This is a fabulous audience recording of the last of 4 consecutive nights in Paris during the In The Flesh 1977 tour. These Parisian concerts were performed at the Pavillon de Paris, which was a concert hall built at the place of an ancient slaughterhouse ("abattoirs de la Villette" in French). The idea to bring the Animals Tour at a slaughterhouse is kind of ironic, hence the title of this release.
An excellent 1st gen tape provided by Finkployd49 was transferred by Neonknight in 2011, and the present Harvested release is a remastered version of this 1st gen tape transfer.
The remastering addressed mainly 3 aspects. First, on the rough transfer the speed was not consistent, the pitch increasing slightly as the show progressed. The speed of the first part of the Animals set is correct but it begins to accelerate during Dogs resulting in a 1.7% increase at the end of Pigs. A similar accelerating effect occurs for the second set, with 1.2% correction needed at the beginning of SOYCD 1-5 and 2% correction at the end of SOYCD 6-9. During Money, the acceleration is even more obvious where the first verse is 2% too fast and the last verse is 3% too fast. These speed fluctuations can be explained by batteries slowly losing power during the taping of the show. The present remaster corrects all of these speed issues.
Another aspect was the raw sound of the original transfer with some annoying saturation of particular frequencies during the loud parts and a kind of "narrow" spectrum due to prominent medium. Careful EQ was applied in order to reduce the annoying frequencies, and to let the music breathe more with a "fuller" sound. For instance, the depth of Roger's bass can be heard in its full glory on this remaster. Another example is the barking interlude in the middle of Dogs where the bass drum kicks now sound as they were likely to sound in the Pavillon that night.
Last but not least, the original recording was plagued with hundreds of mic bumps, probably caused by GD (the taper) moving during the show and touching his microphones. Every bump was carefully eliminated or attenuated manually in order to appreciate the music without these disturbances. This was the biggest challenge for this remaster, since it took dozens of hours to get rid of these mic bumps.
Other restoration work during this remastering process was to correct some tape drop-outs here and there, adjusting the levels of each channel and creating continuity (avoiding the cut due to tape flip) between Pigs On the Wing Pt.2 and Pigs, and between Welcome To the Machine and Have A Cigar. There was no NR applied for this remaster.
In regards to the performance this show is a real killer, with the band very inspired and tighter than during the last weeks of the U.S. tour (just listen to the Oakland show from May 9, or the Madison Square Garden concert from July 2, where the sound quality is fantastic but the performance is erratic at times). Also, the European audience was very polite and did not impose itself on the recording, unlike - again - the Oakland or the Madison Square Garden shows.
This is the 36th anniversary of this great concert, so play it loud to commemorate our favorite Floyd tour.
Enjoy !
