1977 January 23

setlist: Sheep /Pigs On The Wing Part 1 / Dogs / Pigs On The Wing Part 2 / Pigs (Three Different Ones) / Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V) / Welcome To The Machine / Have A Cigar / Wish You Were Here / Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX) / Money /  Us & Them

first of all it was very hard to check this, not because of the difficulty of the checking itself (the 3 recorders are very easy to distinguish) but because of my own emotional participation.
This is not only the first date of my favorite tour, this is also a German show, with one of the most nice, warm and polite crowds you can imagine.
I’m so happy there are 3 different recorders available for this date! (any other will make me even more happy)

note that on this show there were few errors:

- Waters doesn't sing the following line on Sheep : "I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen"

- Waters sarts singing the 3rd verse of Pigs too early after the guitar solo following the 2nd verse, he sings just "Hey you, White house" and stops.

- some problems with the sound system occur causing whistles at times on the mic and a sound problem on WYWH makes Gilmour laugh while singing the first verse of the song.

RECORDER 1 - complete - is the source used for the RoIO "Animals Tour Debut" released by several labels with the same title.

here are 2 versions:

"Animals Tour Debut(DFP)" ; "Animals Tour Debut (unknown edition)"

the common version have all SOYCD 6-9 cut at the end, but it was fully recorded - also available from fantapes, several different sources exist, having different contents:

like this nice 1st gen. obtained by the taper but with tunings and intermissions almost all cut by the taper (some versions, like the one from the 1st gen. have also more edits)

or like this supernice LowGen, that's one of the few versions having SOYCD 6-9 complete, unfortunately there are distortions in the last part of the song in the LowGen but still that's the most complete version I found with a long soundscape before Sheep that I didn't catch in any other version I checked;

or like this 2ndGen, superrnice! having also SOYCD 6-9 complete and with no distortions! but there are little edits between the songs there too.

In few words, to get the 100% complete version of this recorder you'd need to get at least 3 sources/versions as it seems. Also notice that there are weird problems of speed on Pigs in ALL the copies of this recorder and prolly right on the master so.

RECORDER 2 - inclomplete - so far available on the LP "Wish The Animals Were Here" only.

RECORDER 3 - complete except a cut on Pigs (3rd verse is missing) and a cut on SOYCD 6-9 (cuts after "how near or how far" > missing "Shine on you crazy diamond, Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there, Shine on you crazy diamond" > reprises on "And we'll bask in the shadow")

- an untitled version claimed from the master  is around [it's maybe just a low gen?];

there are several fantapes around too like this version from unknown source "untitled" [100% same as the master- including more tuneups/intermissinons]

or these truly nice genuine copies of the masters which are crispier and longer than the claimed master version:

- 1stGen (source 1)

- 1stGen (source 2)

points where to distinguish the 3 recorders:

Sheep:

rec.1 no soundscape in many versions but the longer version I lately got reveals a long soundscape have been recorded by this taper too.

rec.2 no soundscape

rec.3 long soundscape before the song starts, there are people talking around the taper in the background before Waters starts singing; before the applauses at the end someone near to the taper talks quite clearly.

POTW p1:

rec.1 there are guys before the song starts yelling "he-he-he-he" and clapping together very near to the taper here, they are audible or rec. 3 too but sound very distant.

rec.2 \\

rec.3 \\

Dogs:

rec.1 as soon as the song is over a guy whistle and another yells "wee" near to the taper.

rec.2 after Waters sings "So have a good drown, as you go down alone - Dragged down by the stone" there are applauses and soon after the applauses the taper (or a guy very near to him) starts talking quite clearly in German.

rec.3 \\

POTW p2

rec.1 before the song starts a guy yells something like a"we-ho" in the crowd and a guy near to the taper repeats that twice, also guys clearly talk around the taper before the song starts.

rec.2 here the song starts when Waters sings "and you know that I care for you"; here at the very beginning you can hear distinctly a guy clapping very near to the taper and then a girl talking near to the recorder.

rec.3 a guy blows his nose soon before the song starts (right after that guy yells "we-ho" in the crowd), then the taper or guys very near to him talk at the beginning of the song ... near to the end you can hear a guy who says somethig near to the taper.

Pigs (3DO)

rec.1 at the very beginning guys talk and laugh and there's a girl chatting all near to the taper.

rec.2 (this song doesn't appear on the album)

rec.3 on this recorder Pigs has a cut and the 3rd verse is missing, the number is present thugh. Guys near to the taper chats during the 'pigs' at the very beginning ... soon before the the keyboard starts playing at the very beginning a guy coughs and then another guy screams something very clearly (sorry i don't understant german) ... at the end after the Waters' announce of the end of the set the taper talks (soon before the stopping of the recorder). ..[note that that guy blows his noise again here at the beginning of the song at least other 2 times]

SOYCD (I-V)

rec.1 a guy near to the taper says "weeee" twice while the song is starting

rec.2 (this song doesn't appear on the album)

rec.3 before the song starts there are guys talking and the taper moves the mic (this kinda intermissions are included in this recorder only, they are all missing in the first recorder)

WTTM:

rec.1 there are guys screaming at the very beginning.

rec.2 at the very begining before the song starts the taper (or a guy very near to him) says something, then there's somebody clapping very near to the recorder during  the very first lyrics.

rec.3 a guy coughs before the song starts.

HAC:

rec.1 \\

rec.2 on the first guitar notes a guy claps (alone) very near to the recorder (for long!)

rec.3 a guy screams "wa" soon before guitar starts playing.

WYWH:

rec.1 after "so, so you think you can tell" there's a guy yelling "eeeee".

rec.2 \\

rec.3 on the very last fragment there's clearly a guy clapping near to the taper, before the applauses start.

SOYCD (VI-IX):

rec.1 song is cut at the very end in many copies but this recorder taped it all, the last part has distortions on some copies so it was edited out in many copies but, again, it was entirely recorded as the long versions reveals and as the 2ndGen reveals it has not distortions at the end originally

rec.2 (this song doesn't appear on the album)

rec.3 the song is cut  in the middle missing part of the lyrics (see above) you can hear guys talking in the background near to the end, on the last notes, and that guy blowing his nose again then (:P) ... this includes (again) all the applauses at the end too, a long uncut intermission with tunings between the end of the second set and the encores.

MONEY:

rec.1 as soon as Waters finishes announcing the song a guy sreams "yeah"

rec.2 (this song doesn't appear on the album)

rec.3 \\

U&T:

rec.1 \\

rec.2 (this song doesn't appear on the album)

rec.3 a guy talks clearly near to the recorder on the first notes.

1977 January 24

setlist: Sheep /Pigs On The Wing Part 1 / Dogs / Pigs On The Wing Part 2 / Pigs (Three Different Ones) / Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V) / Welcome To The Machine / Have A Cigar / Wish You Were Here / Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX) / Money

only one recording is in general circulation of the 2nd night of the In The Flesh 77 tour, what a pity no others are around. Many different versions exist of this recording from low generation copies, all in a fair SQ, here few examples: "Animals In Dortmund" (DR); "Giant Inflatable Pig" (HL); a very circulated version from supposed 2ndGen; a much more hard to find version from a genuine 2ndGen (around as 1stGen for some time); this nice lately surfaced version from a MasterClone
