almost totally under construction

this is a page about mislabeled Recordings.

many of the following here listed are considered mislabeled /misdated for long ... although they still are traded as mislabeled sometimes (some are almost always) unfortunately ...

here there are 2 different lists, since there are 2 kinds of misdatation:

1. "uncirculating" dates: 100% fakes! the Pink Floyd really performed in these date/places but no recordings are circulating so far; here are included misdated specific songs too, usually added as bunus tracks or in compilations.

2. "confused" dates: recordings supposed from a certain date which has actually circulating recordings but that are really from other dates/circulating recordings ... in this case is only the specific version to be a fake since both the supposed date and the actual one do exist. also here are included specific songs used as fillers on some recordingd actually coming from different dates than the ones claimed.
NB: the best way to recognize the authenticity of a recording is to compare that with the existing ones of the same tour (usually it's enough a comparison with all the recordings circulating of the same tour actually, but sometimes a check with the other tours is essential) ... the best way to check a recording is to listen to that of course :p ... nevertheless there are pages with the announcement s/ greetings /audience comments transcriptions, like the frostbrent's ones, that are very useful to this purpose.

(pink italics = specific songs)

underlined titles/venues are linked to comments/details

I recently decided to add a 3rd section dedicated to fake tracks that largely circulated in the traders circuit for ages; they claim to be Pink Floyd demo/unreleased material usually but they are nothing you can call "genuine"; this list will be never complete I guess.

any addition? (let me know)

1. "uncirculating" dates

1967 July 23 - Cosmopolitan Ballroom, Carlisle, Cumbria, Scotland (Reaction In G / Set The Controls)

often included in compilations or as bonus tracks these 2 songs are really from the 'common' BBC recording at Playhouse Theatre, London 67-09-25.

The Pink Floyd really played on 67-07-23 at the Cosmopolitan Ballroom, Carlisle (supported by The Lemon Line and The Cobwebs) but no recording is circulating of that event.

top

1967 October 18 or 19 University College London
big fake, first only "Around The Mystic" RoIO was around (cover says 10-19 but the Floyd never performed in that date, they rather did on 10-18) now it's also around as University College London 69-10-18 actually but it's just a big fake!, only a compilation.

top

1970 March 30 - Hall des Expositions, Bourget, France
the PF really performed at 'Le Festival Musique Evolution' at the Hall des Expositions in Bourget and extracts were shown on French TV on 16th April 1970 but no recording is circulating, the recordings around claiming this date are big big fakes only, probably somebody traded for that changin the date of 20th with 30th by chance or on purpose, this is really the incomplete recording of Lund, Sweden 70-03-20.

see RoIO details

1970 October 16 - Pepperland Auditorium, San Rafael, California
I honestly don't know what makes someone suppose the Cymbalyne LP could be from October 16, I didn't get a full scan of the LP label, maybe that's written right there?; the pf-roio db reports that wrong date too. All the versions in circulation are sourced from the LPs; different editions did exist also entitled: "Live" (Dittolino); "Untitled /Cymbalyne" (PF 2804-2); "Cymbalyne" (LXXXIV SERIES #16 or SMOCKING PIG or TMQ 2804); they all have the same contents but were released by different labels. I did get a raw rip from the PF 2804-2 LP but several different transfers into CDs exist and also several fantapes also having this LP source mixed with other dates, as the fake Fillmore East 70.4.9; all the rips/fantapes can have a different indexing/speed etc...; all of them are really the recorder 2 of Santa Monica 70-10-23 (this recorder appeared on this LP only so far) and a genuine recording of October 16 never circulated at now.

1972 May 20 - Stuttgart, West Germany

supposed recording for this date is around with the title: "Boeblingen" .... this is indeed Boeblingen 1972-11-15 - same recorder than Just Another Gig in Böblingen, The Great Gig In Böblingen etc...

the version I got is very poor in sound, with a bunch of NR used and gaps between tracks

tracklist for this fake recording is:

CD1
Breathe 3,18
On the run 6,08
Time 7,33
Gig 4,37
Money 6,35
Us 8,33
Any 7,35
Brain 3,44
Careful 4,06
CD2
Echoes 25,31
One of These Days 10,12
Set the Controls 7,11

1973 March 15 Philadelphia - the WNEW broadcast"
this is a very hard-to-dismislabel recording ... all the collectors agree on this: no recordings of the Philadelphia 1973-3-15 show is circulating, and above all there were no Radio recording or broadcast! ... listening to the  1974 NOV 16 BBC broadcast and the 1973 March 15 WNEW, NY broadcast it's obvious they are the same performance, though the WNEW radio announcer states wrongly the Philly 73 date during the broadcast ... and uhh, it's like a Pandora's Box ... a bunch of mislabeled RoIOs came out, and many still keep on coming out!!! ... here are some titles: "Dark Soundboard Of  Philadelphia" (highland) ; "Dark Side Of  Philly" ; "Pink Zoning"

again, all the supposed Philly '73 recordings are the same stuff, actually the WNEW broadcast of the 1974 NOV 16 gig (from soundboard, originally broadcasted for BBC radio). stop spreading this WNEW broadcast as Philly '73 please!!

see details for "Dark Soundboard Of Philadelphia"

some versions circulating with this date could be also 1973-3-11 or 3-18.

1974 November 4/5 - Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Lothian, Scotland
Thanks to TJ, who took care of asking for information directly to the Usher Hall, it was reported that the Pink Floyd never performed on November 5, the only date they performed at the Usher Hall in '74 was November 4 ... but it seems that 2 dates really exist and all these versions should be actually from November 5, not November 4: "USHER HALL" ; "PICTS IN THE HIGHLANDS"

top

1974 November 8 - The Odeon, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England
there are tapes around like this dated as November 8, they are really just November 9, same source and length than "British Winter Tour Vol. II" and the other tapes labeled Nov.9, like this. Other tapes cirrculated claiming to be from November 8 but being fake, some turned out to coincide with the second set of 74-11-19 Stoke-on-Trent, same contents as this

top

1974 November 28, 29 and 30 - Empire Theater, Liverpool

Tapes labeled Nov 28, 29, 30 are in circulation all being the same performance, often from different recorders.. see here

2. "confused" dates
1968 April 19 - Piper Club, Rome, Italy
this recording appears as bonus in the Laughing Madcaps' RoIO "Paradiso, Amsterdam May 1968 LATE Show" (also known as "The Complete Paradiso Tapes" etc...), they are two songs supposed to be  from this date at the legendary Piper Club in Rome, surely IO is really from the show at the Palazzo Dello Sport of May 6 1968, still have to check the authenticity of  Astronomy Domine.

Wild Animals On: the 1977 June 19 THE MP3 MASTER
Wild Animals On is one of the title this recording is going around. there's this 77-06-19 Master (different recorder than Chicago 77 or A Stangr At Home etc...) that is told to have been seeded in MP3 only, it does exist actually, but this Wild Animals on (around in mp3 indeed)  is really the *very common*  Boston 77.6.27 recording ... how could have been confused!?

top

Bristol 13 December 1974: the longer Bristol 74.12.14
there's actually a genuine recording of Bristol December 13 which is circulating with no specific title (see details) and this mislabeled one has not a specific title as well actually, this is around mislabled probably cause the 'common' Bristol 74.11.14 has U&T cut whereas here it's not! ... all the RoIOs of Bristol 11.14 are sourced from the T tape-copy (unknown generation and not 1st gen. as often listed) which has the best sound for sure but has that cut on U&T unfortunately ... this mislabeled one is from the same taper than the T tape-copy but was sourced from another copy of the master having U&T complete .... the mislabeled versions having U&T complete are of an inferior quality than the T tape anyway (just for completists)

see RoIO details
